AI-Powered Abbreviated Breast MRI – The Most Advanced Screening Tool for Women

IRM Sud Ouest our latest service FAST MRI for women

At IRM Sud Ouest Montreal, we offer the most advanced AI-enhanced Abbreviated Breast MRI, also known as a Fast MRI. This innovative screening technology combines artificial intelligence with next-generation MRI imaging to deliver the most precise and reliable results available in breast cancer detection today.

Unlike traditional mammography or ultrasound, our AI-powered MRI system captures subtle abnormalities that may be invisible on other scans — especially in women with dense breast tissue. The integration of artificial intelligence ensures enhanced image clarity, faster analysis, and the highest diagnostic confidence possible.

What Is an Abbreviated (Fast) Breast MRI?

An Abbreviated Breast MRI is a streamlined version of the full diagnostic breast MRI designed specifically for screening purposes. It allows for quick, comfortable imaging that can detect small tumors or tissue changes long before they become visible on other tests.

This exam is ideal for women with moderate risk of breast cancer or those seeking a more accurate complement to mammography. By using AI-driven imaging technology, the scan process is not only faster but also more consistent and detailed, improving early detection rates and diagnostic accuracy.

How AI-Powered Abbreviated MRI Works

Our advanced system uses magnetic resonance imaging enhanced by AI algorithms to generate ultra-precise breast images in just a few minutes. A small amount of contrast agent (gadolinium) is injected into a vein to highlight breast tissue structures and improve visualization of any potential abnormalities.

AI technology processes the data in real time, enhancing image sharpness and helping radiologists identify even the smallest lesions or vascular changes that may signal early-stage disease.

Why Contrast Injection Is Important

The injection of gadolinium contrast during a breast MRI enhances diagnostic precision by improving the visibility of tissues and potential lesions.

Benefits include:
• Clearer detection of small or early-stage abnormalities
• Better distinction between normal and suspicious tissue
• Assessment of blood flow patterns, helping identify tumor activity
• Improved image clarity for accurate and confident diagnosis

The Procedure

During the exam, the patient lies face down on a comfortable, specially designed table that positions the breasts for optimal imaging. The scan is performed feet-first, and headphones are provided to minimize noise.

A contrast agent is injected during the exam, and the entire procedure lasts approximately 10 to 20 minutes.

Thanks to AI acceleration, imaging time and interpretation are significantly reduced while maintaining exceptional image quality and diagnostic precision.

Coverage and Preparation

This examination is not covered by RAMQ, but most private insurance plans reimburse part or all of the cost. Our clinic also accepts claims from CSST and SAAQ.

Preparation Guidelines:
• Avoid using deodorant or antiperspirant before your appointment
• Bring all previous breast imaging and reports
• Do not eat or drink for 3 hours before the exam
